Following recent changes in federal grant allocations for police equipment, prompted by the "defund the police" movement, many law enforcement agencies have faced shrinking budgets, limiting their ability to acquire new equipment, including bulletproof vests. Unfortunately, the effectiveness of bulletproof vests diminishes once their warranty expires, a widely recognized issue. In response, the National Fallen Officer Foundation (NFOF) has launched an initiative to provide Level III body armor to small and medium-sized police agencies that cannot afford new vests, thereby enhancing officer safety.
With a notable increase in ambush-style attacks on police officers in recent years, there is an urgent need for improved protection and functional equipment. To meet this demand, the NFOF has partnered with the vest manufacturer National Body Armor to facilitate the provision of NIJ Certified Level IIIA bulletproof vests for police agencies. Through this program, we collaborate with local businesses to secure funding and fulfill requests for bulletproof vests for their specified agencies.
These vests are then donated free of charge to the agencies. All vests provided through this initiative are new and come with a standard 5-year warranty. Additionally, the NFOF has negotiated special discounted rates for replacing bulletproof vests for law enforcement officers looking to privately purchase vests.
By ensuring officers have access to reliable body armor, we aim to protect those who protect us, enhancing their safety and supporting their ability to serve our communities effectively.
Individuals can support this initiative by donating funds to purchase NIJ Certified Level IIIA bulletproof vests for the agency of their choice. Each Level III vest costs an average of $699 plus tax.
